Dr. Charles A. Eastman (1858-1939) was a Sioux and a graduate of Boston University School of Medicine. Early in his career he worked as a physician at the Pine Ridge Agency in South Dakota (DN-0000510). In later years, he wrote several books about Native Americans, and he is believed to be the first American Indian author whose books were widely read.
