The Chicago Daily News's photographers kept watch at Chicago's
railroad stations for scenes of interest, and in addition to taking
pictures of celebrities, sometimes caught images of American Indian
travelers. For example, a family of Cheyenne Indians set down
their valises and posed for the camera around 1907 (DN-0004922, DN-0004923) and in 1909 a
group of Sioux Indians lined up for the photographer (DN-0054190, DN-0054189). In later
years, the newspaper's photographers continued to expect the public to be
interested in American Indians pictured in native dress. In 1929, the
photographers persuaded a group of Blackfoot Indians to pose on a rooftop
(DN-0088096, DN-0088094). |
